‘African Violet’ to screen at Atlanta filmfest

Iranian feature film ‘African Violet’ has been slated to take part in the Atlanta Film Festival (AFF) in the US.

Directed by Mona Zandi-Haqiqi, the feature will hit the screen of the American film event’s 45th edition.

‘African Violet’ is about a middle-aged woman named Shokouh whose ex-husband, Fereydoun, is placed in a nursing home by their children. She, and her second husband Reza, decide to take care of Fereydoun in their own home. With the arrival of Fereydoun, some unexpected changes happen in the lives of all three characters. 

Notable among the cast members of the flick are Fatemeh Motamed-Arya, Saeed Aqakhani and Reza Babak.

The film has already won some global honors, including the High School Award and the Audience Award at the 25th Vesoul Int’l Film Festival of Asian Cinema in France and the Special Jury Award at the 6th Tripoli Film Festival in Lebanon.

Founded in 1977, the Atlanta Film Festival is one of the largest and longest-running festivals in the US, welcoming an audience of nearly 25,000 to discover hundreds of new independent, international, animated, documentary, and short films, selected from more than 3,000 submissions from all over the world.

The AFF screenings often include in-person dialog with filmmakers, providing audiences, artists and industry professionals with meaningful opportunities to network, interact and engage.

This year’s edition of the fest is set to be held on April 22-May 2.
